Ewe Benbenek

Biography

Ewe Benbenek (b. 1985 in Kamienna Góra) is a multi-award-winning playwright. She studied cultural/political science at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and at University College London, and literary studies at the University of Erfurt. From 2014 to 2019, she was a research assistant for Modern German Literature/Theatre Studies at the University of Hamburg. In 2019, she was nominated for the Retzhofer Drama Prize. Her first full-length-play Tragödienbastard premiered at the Vienna Schauspielhaus in 2020. In 2021, it won the Mülheim Drama Prize, and she was voted Emerging Playwright of the Year of Theater heute magazine. Her play Juices was nominated for the 2024 Mülheim Drama Prize.
