Hend Alawadhi

Biography

Hend F. Alawadhi is an Assistant Professor at the College of Architecture in Kuwait University. She holds a doctorate in Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Rochester. She researches the gendered representations of disability and illness in Arab media. Her work has appeared in Artslant, Afterimage, Journal of Media, Communication and Film and International Journal of Comic Art. She has received fellowships and grants from the Flaherty Seminar, Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies, Society for Cinema and Media Studies, and Middle East Studies Association. Hend was previously managing editor of InVisible Culture: A Journal for Visual Culture, curator of experimental screening series On Film, and translator at Refugees Helping Refugees (Rochester, NY). She is the author of “Tracing Revolution: In Search of the Palestinian Film Archive” (Public Journal: Art/Culture/Ideas); “Reclaiming the Narrative: The 99 and Muslim Superheroes” (International Journal of Comic Art); and “On What Was, and What Remains: Palestinian Cinema and the Film Archive” (The IAFOR Journal of Media, Communication & Film).
