Maria Milisavljevic is a Berlin-based internationally successful German playwright. Her plays have been staged by most leading German-language theatres and in New York, London, Toronto, Tokyo, Mexico City and more. Her play Brandung (Abyss) won the 2013 Kleist Promotional Award and was nominated for a 2015 Dora Award in Toronto. Beben (Noise) won the 2016 Heidelberger Stückemarkt Drama Award and the 2016 Else-Lasker-Schüler-Award and was nominated for the 2018 Mülheim Drama Prize. Staubfrau (The River) won the 2025 Mülheim Drama Prize and Audience Award. Milisavljevic was awarded the Else-Lasker-Schüler-Award as Outstanding Playwright for her entire dramatic works in 2026. She holds a Ph.D. in English and translates works by Anne Carson, Sam Max and others into German.
