Biography

Meike G. Werner is the Centennial Chair of German Studies and Professor of European and German Studies at Vanderbilt University, USA, where she also serves as Director of the Max Kade Center for European and German Studies. She has published widely on German literature and culture from the 18th to the 20th century, most recently Katakombenzeit. Wilhelm Flitner in Hamburg 1929–1969 (co-authored, 2025), Gruppenbild mit Max Weber (2023), Germany’s Other Modernism. The Jena Paradigm 1900–1914 (2023), and Peter Demetz. Was wir wiederlesen wollen (2022). She is the co-editor of Internationales Archiv für Sozialgeschichte der deutschen Literatur (IASL) and of Studien und Texte zur Sozialgeschichte der Literatur (STSL). From 2020 to 2023, Werner served as president of the American Friends of the German Literature Archive Marbach.
