Biography

Melissa L. Breger is the President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law at Albany Law School. Breger has been teaching at the law school level for over twenty years, having started teaching at her alma mater, the University of Michigan Law School. Before teaching, she dedicated her career to helping women, families and children in New York City. She is the recipient of several teaching and service awards, both on a local and national level. Professor Breger is the co-author of New York Law of Domestic Violence, Fourth Edition (2023), a two-volume treatise, and her most recent book is Exploring Norms and Family Laws Across the Globe (2022). Breger has authored numerous law review articles in top journals such as Tulane Law Review, South Carolina Law Review, Michigan Journal of Law Reform and NYU Law Review of Social Change, as well as book chapters regarding issues of family law, gender and justice on a global level.
