Description
Learn, step-by-step, how to avoid or navigate burnout and reclaim the joy of the library profession while making a deep impact in your service community.
In the face of burnout caused by book bans, program challenges, and waning resources, how can library workers sustain their own mental well-being and enjoyment of the profession, while continuing to offer top-notch programs and services to their community?
Reframing your outlook on librarianship and community service is the key to reclaiming “library joy.” This book educates library workers at all levels on how to identify their own passions and a community need, then put it all together to build a bridge between interest and impact. Professional fulfillment is part of this journey, making this advice beneficial to both experienced and novice library workers. This hands-on workbook includes library program worksheets and evaluation quizzes for library staff use, all developed to support the reclamation of library joy.

Library joy means so, so much to me. For other library professionals to begin using the phrase is mind blowing. To see it paired with burnout gives me great joy. What a proud day for someone to be in a position to reclaim their joy, library joy or any sort of joy. Burnout is very real, and is looked at as something that will happen instead of something we can prevent from happening. This book is vital to mental health and libraries. It is not the definitive answer, rather it is just as an importantly a guide to help you find the answers as you seek your joy (why not library joy?).
