Kolbert's work is a valuable contribution. Her book is valuable because it introduces the subject of global warming in a story telling fashion. Kolbert brings science to life by distilling the stories of scientists who have unraveled the meaning of ice core samples, the evolving timing of mosquito larvae hatching and the shifting ranges of butterflies in England. The book is very suitable for the wider public. Besides being an excellent introduction to the subject of global warming, it also, because of the way it is written, invites participation and engagement.
