This book explains the art, craft and science of helping children become independent using the loo. It takes a kind and practical approach which recognises that children are different and need individual techniques to support them through the emotional peaks and troughs that come with the potty training territory!

Highly recommended. This is unlike other potty training books I've read. It contains so many tricks and tips which are all based on research. Part of it looks at how to engage your child based on their specific personality. My son couldn't have cared less about keeping himself clean and dry (even found it funny) but the Mr Poo and Mrs Wee characters have really resonated with him. I'm looking forward to introducing the idea of potty training with my 1 year old.

Coming across Nurse Rebecca Mottram's podcast and pottying guide was a breath of fresh air and just the encouragement and scientific evidence that we needed to help our daughter “potty train”. We had bought a famous “train in 3 days” book to start potty training her, but everything about it felt wrong, we don't expect 6-month-olds to go from a fully milk diet to eating a full roast dinner in 3 days so why was I expecting my daughter to go from nappies to potty trained overnight! It was so helpful to learn about the myth of “readiness”; we started nappy free time and potty learning with our daughter at 19 months old and from birth with our son, thanks to the knowledge we'd learnt from Rebecca's work. Rebecca's method makes complete sense, and is actually achievable, her reframing accidents as learning opportunities kept us going and we're so glad we did as our daughter is completely independent using the potty and we are able to support our son to also use the potty at just 6 months old! I recommend her method to everyone I know!

Tops Day Nurseries and Shoots Training are delighted to welcome this much-needed earlier potty training book. It makes so much more sense to us to start potty training right from every baby or toddlers' first days in nurseries, just like we do with reading, music and using the senses. We have piloted starting potty training earlier in our nurseries and found children succeeding many months earlier through enjoying this more gradual, fun process that is embedded in everyday practice from as soon as babies can sit comfortably and uses up-to-date research on how babies with different personalities develop skills such as potty training effectively and without any pressure, stickers or sweets. We love earlier potty training and are cascading this to all our nurseries. We very much endorse working with parents who use this book, using its up-to-date research and practical techniques, to empower their children to go nappy free before pre-school, never mind school! We believe parents, educators and children will be happier and healthier as a result of using this book.

We were very apprehensive potty training our daughter as she had been withholding poos for a very long time before we started potty training. However, Rebecca was a huge support in guiding us through the whole process and really helped us to tailor our potty-training approach to our daughter's temperament and personality to make sure we were working with her rather than against her.
