This book provides an examination of the ways in which white nationalism's mediated networks circulate emotion and affect to produce and maintain white nationalist identities via the constant repetition - over great lengths of time - of key ideas in a highly emotional manner.
By first identifying key themes of white nationalist rhetoric - namely, the existence and endangerment of a white race which has a claim on specific geographic areas - Kevan A. Feshami proposes a definition of white nationalism as an identity-based nationalism grounded in the circulation of affects as part of a project to defend the white race from perceived threats. In addition to his ongoing analysis of thousands of white nationalist media artifacts conducted over nearly a decade, Feshami incorporates existing theoretical frameworks from scholars including Roger Griffin, Henri Lefebvre, Sara Ahmed, Raymond Williams, and Jean-Paul Sartre to lay a foundation for thinking about 'groupuscular' networks in conjunction with mediated and emotional politics in both historic contexts and in present day. Ultimately, this book positions white nationalism's networks as mediated spaces that form a social architecture in which participants are encouraged to form new and warped understandings of the self, one's relationship to others, and one's place in the larger world.
