Denise J. Youngblood is Professor Emerita of Russian, Soviet, and East European history at the University of Vermont, USA, specialising in the socio-cultural history of Russian and Soviet cinema, focusing on popular films and reception. She is the author of several books, including Bondarchuk’s War and Peace: Literary Classic to Soviet Cinematic Epic (2014), Cinematic Cold War: The American and Soviet Struggle for Hearts and Minds (2010; with Tony Shaw) and Repentance: The Film Companion (Bloomsbury, 2001; with Jospehine Woll). Her current research emphasises deconstructing and reconfiguring imperial cinemas.
