Margaret C. Jacob is Emerita Distinguished Professor of Research at UCLA. Previous publications include The Secular Enlightenment (2019, Princeton University), The Enlightenment: A Brief History with Selected Texts (Bedford Books, 2001; second edition, 2017), and The First Knowledge Economy: Human Capital and the European Economy, 1750–1850 (2014, Cambridge University Press).
