Description
There is no Latin author more suitable for Sixth Form study than Catullus. The variety of his subject-matter, the range of his emotions, the originality of his ideas, and the superb quality of his verse combine to make the reading of his poems a delight to both teacher and student.
This standard edition presents a considerable collection of Catullus' oeuvre in a variety of metres and genres. It was originally intended to introduce the poet to students in the final years of school, but can equally successfully be used in the first year undergraduate course. The poems are arranged thematically: short poems first and then selected longer poems, including poem 64 in full.
The basic introduction provides factual information which the student will need before embarking on the poems. Notes will assist with language and content, alongside a select vocabulary and a useful appendix on metres.
