Queer and Trans Approaches to Religion and Theology

Cody J. Sanders (Series Editor), Justin Sabia-Tanis (Series Editor)

This series issues an invitation for scholars to take the next turn in the intersecting scholarship of queer/trans studies and religion/theology by attending not only to the intersection of these diverse fields of inquiry, but also by employing queer/trans hermeneutics and theoretical frameworks within religious/theological scholarship and praxis to examine pressing concerns within a wider scope of theory and praxis: ecclesial, societal, and planetary. The series is a necessary intervention at a time when queer and trans studies is at a precarious point in a society amid racial political division, with religious dimensions often at the center of the turmoil. The books in the series engage the unique vantagepoint that queer/trans scholarship in religion and theology holds to address these critical concerns affecting the livability of life on the planet. Titles from a wide range of religious, spiritual, and theological standpoints will be incorporated into the series, both those more confessional in nature and titles coming from a broader religious studies approach. What unites these volumes under this series is their focus on constructive engagement related to how persons and communities approach queer and trans topics within religious and theologies studies, and/or how they approach religion, theology, and spiritual praxis from queer and trans vantagepoints. The authors aim to make critical interventions into both the understanding and praxis of religion, theology, and spirituality through foregrounding queer and trans embodiments, interpretations, and practices.
