Margaret Swain, MBE, wrote many books and articles as a result of her research into the history of textiles. She served on the Council of the Embroiderers' Guild and was an Honorary Consultant to the Royal Museum of Scotland. In 1989 she was awarded the MBE for services to the history of embroidery.
