Description

This is a book that studies the evolution of Hindutva as a phenomenon rooted in Indic values, and RSS as an organismal adaptation of Hindutva towards the challenges of colonization, proselytization and globalization. It studies the much-ignored aspects of Hindutva – its contribution in some really important dimensions of post-colonial socio-political and cultural developments of the world. Deals in detail with the worldviews and values of Hedgewar, Golwalkar, Deoras and Savarkar. The book places the RSS in the line of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Vedantic lineage.

In this book the Sangh's stands are analyzed critically and empirically: For example let us take the case of Rashtriya Muslim Manch: the roots of this go deeper. One has to go through the way Deendayal Research Institute (DRI) has started working as early as late 1980s when it brought out a special issue on Bhakti-Sufi convergence (coinciding with the rise of Sri Ram Janma Bhoomi movement) and Golwalkar's outreach to Muslims).
At the ground level how does this translate?

RSS schools lent its teachers to Pune Muslim educationist who produced district rank holders from Muslim community for the first time. Similarly the RSS has also interacted with Christian leaders and intellectuals. So RMM has a decades long history of incubation and is just one of the many aspects of Sangh. Similarly there is Vigyan Bharathi – which is the Sangh Parivar organization for science dissemination – which again is not discussed at all though they won the best science popularizers award under UPA. The book brings out not only their achievements but also their problems. So is the case with Ithikasa Sankalan Samithi – the history wing of the RSS. Thus this book provides a comprehensive view of the RSS – not just 360 degree but also the cross section and trans sectional analysis of the organization.
