Biography

Carl Wilson is an independent scholar based in the UK where his research focuses on evolving position of the superhero and supernatural game adaptations and associated franchises within contemporary convergence culture. Founder of the Superhero Studies Network and previously an Associate Lecturer at The Sheffiled College, UK, he has given academic conference talks in New York, Oxford and Coperhagen and served as Film Editor for PopMatters.com. He has edited (with Lorna Piatti-Farnell) The Routledge Companion to Superhero Studies (2025) and special issue of on ‘Superheroes’ for The Australasian Journal of Popular Culture (2023). HIs research has appeared in such publications as Contagion: Pandemics, Cryptids, and Monsters (edited by Simon Bacon, 2027), Superhero Gothic (ed. Simon Bacon, 2027) and Adapting Horror in Popular Culture (edited by John Darowski and Joseph Darowski, 2026).
