Biography

Crispin Bates is Professor of Modern and Contemporary South Asian History at The University of Edinburgh, UK. He is the author and editor of several books on South Asian history, including Community, Empire and Migration: South Asians in Diaspora (2000), Subalterns and Raj: South Asia since 1600 (2007), and Cities in South Asia (2015; co-edited with Minoru Mio). He is also the Editor of the Mutiny at the Margins: New Perspectives on the Indian Uprising of 1857 series, as well as being Fellow of both the Royal Asiatic Society and the Royal Historical Society.
