Biography

Ted Banning is a Professor in the Anthropology Department at University of Toronto, where he has taught courses on archaeological methods, landscape archaeology, historical archaeology, household archaeology, Near Eastern archaeology, and other topics for more than 30 years. He conducts field projects mainly on the Neolithic of Southwest Asia and has a particularly strong focus on archaeological survey. He was the 2024 recipient of the Society of American Archaeology’s Binford Family Award for Teaching Scientific Reasoning in Archaeology, and has a YouTube channel, The Archaeologist’s Laboratory, on which he discusses a number of both practical and more general archaeological topics.
