Ian Marshall appointed Publishing Director, Non-Fiction
Marshall has worked at Simon & Schuster since 2012, publishing a wide and varied list of bestselling and prize-winning books, most recently including Bill Browder’s Freezing Order, Gordon Brown’s Seven Ways to Change the World, Dave Grohl’s No 1 phenomenal bestseller The Storyteller, Michael Holding’s William Hill prize-winner Why We Kneel, How We Rise, John Nichol’s Tornado, Peter Oborne’s The Assault on Truth and Mary Trump’s No 1 bestseller Too Much and Never Enough.
Marshall commented: ‘I’ve had a wonderfully enjoyable and happy time at Simon & Schuster over the last decade, and am so grateful to Ian Chapman and Suzanne Baboneau for giving me that opportunity in the first place. It has been great to be a part of the successes that saw the company secure the Nibbie as Publisher of the Year, and to have worked with some of the best authors in the business, as well as my terrific colleagues. I will be sorry to leave them behind. But the opportunity to take on this role at Bloomsbury was too good to refuse, and I am excited to work with Alexis to help grow the list and bring Bloomsbury’s books to the largest possible readership.’
Kirschbaum said: ‘Ian Marshall has everything we’ve been looking for in a new Publishing Director for non-fiction. Shortlisted for Editor of the Year in 2022, his commitment to publishing excellence, his breadth of interest and his ability to identify huge readerships for his books is so impressive. Ian’s commissioning will continue Bloomsbury’s strong publishing in market-leading, page-turning non-fiction across popular history, current affairs, politics, pop culture / music memoir. He will be central to Bloomsbury Trade’s non-fiction strategy going forward, and a key part of our plan for significant growth in the coming years.’
