What we do

• Work in partnership with Creative Access and LDN Apprenticeships to provide new pathways into the industry for people from underrepresented backgrounds
• Run a regular programme of Bloomsbury Institute talks and career events that champion working in the publishing sector
• Support outreach campaigns, including Unpacking the Credits in partnership with Mayor of London
• Offer accessible careers content on our site, including information on how to get into the industry and available opportunities
• Offer a Rental Deposit Scheme for entry-level new starters to help with the costs of securing housing

What we will do

• Develop a Recruitment and Selection Policy informed by this Action Plan, setting out Bloomsbury’s process for attracting and selecting applicants from diverse backgrounds
• Adapt our recruitment process and HR systems – facilitating a skills-based application process, increasing outreach, training managers in inclusive hiring, and
• Create a dedicated Communications Plan aimed at demystifying publishing and encouraging people to apply who may not realise the industry is for them
• Expand our UK Apprenticeship programme to take on more apprentices, including career changers
• Expand our US and Australia Internship programme
• Work to ensure that Bloomsbury offices and facilities are comfortable, welcoming and accessible for all
• Collect Equal Opportunities data on an opt-in basis from applicants and current employees
• Ensure that at least one underrepresented candidate is shortlisted for every open role
• Put pay, benefits and career planning frameworks in place, facilitating consistent job titles and descriptions and fairly applied salaries, benefits and promotions
