Description

This collection brings together a diverse range of disciplinary and inter-disciplinary perspectives to answer the key questions at the intersection of schizoanalysis and performance: can schizoanalysis provide a robust framework for analysing and creating performance, and can the conceptual concerns of performance studies in turn invigorate our understanding of schizoanalysis?

Deleuze and Guattari's work has inspired vital interventions into many areas of performance studies, and these are represented here including: the emergence of participatory performance art; staging trauma; neurodiversity in performance; the inclusion of the non-human in performance practices; contemporary political theatre; and the performance of the self.

Drawing primarily on Deleuze and Guattari's Capitalism and Schizophrenia, the contributors to this volume combine their own performance practices with new analyses of topics spanning from the theatre of Samuel Beckett and Alice Birch, to the performance art of Vito Acconci, and Natalie Wynn's video essays. Each chapter explores the political and ethical aspects of bringing performance and schizoanalysis together, divining the potential and the implications of this combination as well as the new approaches that it can offer to Deleuze and and Guattari's own thought.
