First published in 1952, this study discusses the development of Greek prose during the fifth century and analyzes its use of abstract forms of expression, word-order, sentence structure, use of repetition, asyndeton and assonance.
J. D. Deniston's monumental work The Greek Particles remains his most enduring contribution to the study of ancient Greek language, but at the time of his death in 1949 he was working to turn a series of lectures on Greek prose into book-form. Edited by Hugh Lloyd Jones, Greek Prose Style discusses the development of Greek prose during the fifth century and analyses its use of abstract forms of expression, word order, sentence structure, use of repetition, asyndeton and assonance. There is no more succinct, yet comprehensive, and lucid account in English of the subtleties of classical Greek prose.
