The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released its Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) for 2021–2031, once again neatly packaged in a single volume. The OOH begins with the fastest growing occupations, from nurse practitioners to animal trainers, and fields with the most new jobs projected (home health care, software development, and bartending, to name a few). Then hundreds of jobs are described. Each entry describes a career and includes a summary indicating median pay, education and training required, number of jobs in the field, a description of the work done, the work environment, "how to become one," qualities required (skills like communication and math, aptitude, personality traits), job outlook, and similar occupations. Entries are sorted into categories like Architecture & Engineering, Education, Production, and so on. Occupations covered run the gamut of salaries and job requirements, making this a comprehensive guide for career researchers. Back matter includes an alphabetical summary of occupations, a glossary, and an index. A solid choice for career centers, public libraries, and high-school and undergraduate collections.
