Description

The Andria is Terence's version of a play of the same name by Menander, into which the Roman poet also introduced elements from the same Greek playwright's "Perinthia". Shipp's edition was first published in 1939 but much changed and expanded for its second edition in 1960. The introduction includes sections on Greek New Comedy and comedy in Rome, on Terence himself - his prosody, metre, play production and language. The establishment of the text and the didascalia are discussed and the text accompanied by a full apparatus criticus. There is detailed annotation.
