The book's central idea is that the rich if puzzling abundance of theological rhetoric in Adorno's writings, drawn significantly from the Jewish religious lexicon, has generally been sidelined by scholars or studied as derivative of Walter Benjamin, Gershom Scholem, and other luminaries in his intellectual orbit. Rarely has it been approached primarily through an internal reconstruction by the terms of Adorno's own explicit and overarching philosophical objectives. Such a reconstruction, the author hopes to show, displays a unique and heretofore unappreciated “constellational” theology as a central feature of his “negative dialectics.”
