ARTHUR P. YOUNG is Dean of University Libraries at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston. He has written Higher Education in American Life, 1636-1986: A Bibliography of Dissertations and Theses (Greenwood Press, 1988), Books for Sammies: The American Library Association and World War I, and American Library History: A Bibliography of Dissertations and Theses, as well as numerous articles in such journals as College and Research Libraries, Journal of Library History, Library Quarterly and RQ.
