Henrice Altink is Professor in Modern History at the University of York and the author of several books, including Representations of Slave Women in Discourses on Slavery and Abolition (2007) , Destined for a Life of Service: Defining African-Jamaican Womanhood, 1865-1938 (2011) and Public Secrets: Race and Colour in Colonial and Independent Jamaica (2019).
