Biography

Victoria Robinson is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of York, UK where she was Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies. She has held posts at the Universities of Sheffield, Manchester and Newcastle. Her research interests are extreme sport, rock climbing in particular; gender and heterosexualities; men and masculinities; fashion and footwear cultures and the sociology of the everyday. Her published works include Mundane Heterosexualities: From Theory to Practices, with J. Hockey and A. Meah (2007); Everyday Masculinities and Extreme Sport: Male Identity and Rock Climbing (2008) and Masculinities in Transition, with J. Hockey (2011). She received her doctorate at the University of Manchester, UK.
