We are members of OASPA and are glad to be involved with a number of community initiatives including Knowledge Unlatched, the OA Books Network, the OAPEN OA Books Toolkit, and a pilot scheme with ScienceOpen.
Each year we work with Knowledge Unlatched to make a number of Bloomsbury titles open access. KU ask for nominations in specific subject areas, and through a crowdfunding model invite libraries around the world to pledge their support. Those titles which receive enough support are ‘unlatched’ (made open access) at no cost to the author. If your editor thinks your book would be a good candidate for submission to KU, they will contact you to discuss this option. Titles can be proposed either for immediate open access on publication, or for retrospective open access. Please note that titles submitted to KU will only be unlatched if sufficient funds are pledged by KU’s library consortium.
To see the collection of Bloomsbury titles unlatched by KU, visit KU’s Open Research Library. Bloomsbury titles unlatched via KU benefit from the same publishing services we offer to all our academic titles, and are also made available open access on Bloomsbury Collections.
We are pleased to collaborate with ScienceOpen on a pilot scheme to make a selection of our open access titles discoverable on their platform. View the collection.
The toolkit is a free-to-access resource consisting of over 30 articles on various topics relating to open access, that aims to help academic book authors to better understand open access book publishing and to promote and increase trust in open access books. Through her position on the Editorial Advisory Board, our Global Director for Research and Open Access, Ros Pyne, is actively involved in the development and maintenance of this resource.
