Both new and veteran preachers alike find the annual stewardship sermon a challenge and are eager for encouraging, practical advice. In Preaching and Stewardship, Craig Satterlee offers a nuts-and-bolts handbook on preaching stewardship, raising issues preachers need to consider when preparing stewardship sermons and offering advice on how to address them. Satterlee argues that stewardship preaching must include a bold and concrete proclamation of God's love, will, and justice, as well as an invitation to grow as stewards in response to this proclamation. He focuses each chapter on a question preachers ought to ask themselves as they prepare the stewardship sermon, beginning with, 'What do you mean by stewardship?' and 'Why should we give to the church?' In chapters 3 through 6, he explores what the Bible says about stewardship. In chapter 7, he names some of the assumptions both preachers and worshipers bring to the stewardship sermon. The final chapter a variety of ways congregations can support the stewardship sermon. Satterlee illustrates the premise of each chapter with anecdotes from congregational life. Preachers who desire examples of stewardship sermons will especially appreciate stewardship sermons he shares from various preachers to illustrate points in the main text.

Craig Satterlee writes the preaching books the church needs. Preaching and Stewardship will come as a joyful surprise to preachers who have been bogged down for years trying to say stewardship is about everything but money. Satterlee puts the "M" word front and center without losing sight of a heartfelt theological vision for Christian community.
John A. Dally, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary
Satterlee's volume on preaching and stewardship demonstrates a wonderfully direct and unapologetic approach to a topic many church leaders lament addressing. This book is an invaluable guide for preachers who long to believe that biblically grounded and clearly articulated sermons on stewardship can grow people's giving and their faith.
Stephen Chapin Garner, author of "Getting into Character"
This is definitely not just another book on stewardship sermons! Craig Satterlee unapologetically addresses preaching about giving money to the church in response to the gospel and does so with keen biblical and theological insight. The book is forthright and helpful to preachers timid about mentioning money in a sermon.
Ann L. Hoch, Pastor, Memorial Presbyterian Church, Fredericksburg, Texas
At last! A book on preaching and stewardship that is both full of good, practical sense and replete with soaring theology. Satterlee shakes us loose from all mundane notions of stewardship in favor of the claim that the way we use money can be a bold 'act of resistance to the powers at work in the world that are opposed to God.' Many preachers dread the annual stewardship sermon, but Satterlee ably shows how 'messing with mammon' can be a prophetic, exciting task for the preacher.
Thomas G. Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching, Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, GA
Centered in Gospel grace, this book will inspire stewardship preaching grounded in the abundant generosity of God. Anecdotes, sample sermons, and leading questions provide practical resources for crafting faithful sermons about the often awkward topic of money and God.
Marty E. Stevens, Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Stewardship in the Arthur L. Larson position of Stewardship and Parish Ministry, Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg
