A historical understanding of the loss of rural and urban common land helps illuminate violent anti-immigrant, and, surprisingly, anti-emigrant practices. This book considers immigration and emigration from both impoverished and wealthy countries, and offers a combined theorization of cultural artefacts and reference to historical context and current facts. Examples in this book illuminate immigration and emigration in South America, Central America, North America, and Asia.
