What a wonderful resource for a MC/Gen pursuing National Boards. It is like having your own personal coach right next to you to answer all of the important questions 24/7.
Kim Ebbers Wass, NBCT 2011, Middle Childhood Generalist, Arizona Master Teacher
What Works! is a must read for candidates and is a resource that should be kept right next to your Portfolio Instructions. One of the challenges encountered during the writing process of National Board, is responding to the Portfolio Entry prompts. Bobbie Faulkner's ability to "unpack" the prompts leads to a clearer understanding of the type of evidence that supports accomplished practice that is the focus of a National Board Assessor.
Manuel M. Chavez, Mammoth-San Manuel Unified School District, Middle Childhood Generalist Candidate-in-Waiting
Most National Board candidates spend a tremendous amount of time trying to decipher the prompts rather than writing entries and video-taping lessons. This book is an amazing resource that will shorten the amount of time spent understanding the process. Candidates will learn how to design lessons with the end in mind and have better idea of where to start. This book clearly explains the differences between descriptive, analytical and reflective writing. I highly recommend this book to anyone pursuing a National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist.
Tiffany Albers, Redfield Elementary School, Scottsdale Unified School District, MA Ed, NBCT: Middle Childhood Generalist
A must-read for Middle Childhood Generalists candidates, this book is a comprehensive outline that informs those pursuing National Board Certification the ins and outs of the portfolio requirements. Bobbie Faulkner will help many through the process with this in-depth look. She connects with candidates like no other. Bobbie Faulkner clarifies, conceptualizes and counsels candidates as she helps them move effortlessly through the certification process. This is clearly a recipe for success!
Nanette Hubbell, NBCT/Middle Childhood Generalist
There are those who say that NBPTS distributes the information candidates need – that there really is no need for anyone to purchase a resource book. Technically that may be correct. However, most candidates have no idea how to sort through it. To have a book that clearly, concisely, and consistently walks you through this process is an asset well worth any candidate’s dollar. Nobody is better able to put the NBPTS directions into understandable language than Bobbie Faulkner. If you are an MC-GEN candidate, this book is a must – whether you have face-to-face candidate support, online support, or no other support at all. Having Bobbie walk you through it will keep you sane. I will have a copy, but will strongly encourage my MC-GEN candidates to have their own copy, too!
